We recently decided to replace the flooring in our bathroom. In the process, we discovered that the closet flange (over 50 years old) was completely broken. Thus, it was removed with the old flooring. Now that the flooring has been replaced, we are ready to replace the closet flange. We were planning on using the Oatey closet flange so we could do the project ourselves but discovered they only come for a 4 inch cast iron pipe. We would really like to do complete this project on our own, but haven't been able to locate a flange that will fit the pipe AND allow us to do the job ourselves. Any suggestions?

I can't speak to reliability on this one, but it looks like it could be a good fix IF the pipe is close up near the finish floor.

Otherwise, I would suggest going over to your local plumbing supply store and see what they have available.

Mark gave you excellent advice. That would certainly be my choice # 1. In addition, you could also purchase and install so called "fit-in" closet ring. It fits inside the pipe rather than over it. See the pic... Good luck / Milo

I also would go with Marks suggestion if at all possible. However, Milo presents another feasible option. Only concern I have with the "fit in" flange is that the ones for three inch pipe get pretty darn small inside diameter, but they should work okay since the crown of most newer bowls aren't any bigger than the opening of the flange. If you do go with the three inch insert flange, keep a plunger near by just in case.
