It means he is displaying signs of being autistic. Did they say anything about what type of autism?

Not specific. He was sent home ealry from school yesterday for misbehaving (pushing kids down). It's been like he don't realize what he is doing to other children till after the fact.

I would go see your dr. Some kids appear to show signs of autism but are not. My son is four and my partner (a dr himself, and the father of a child with aspergers autism) was very concerned about my son being autistic. We let the professionals assess him and thankfully he isn't, though he continues to display some of the characteristics. I would make an appointment with your dr and let them check him out.

There are different types of autism. Some autistic children kind of shut off from the world, they prefer to live in their own little bubble world. Others are overactive (my stepson has aspergers and also has adhd) He is very logically minded, he doesn't like change to his routine or his surroundings, he doesn't understand humour or sarcasm, he is a very literal child. He has difficulty understanding some aspects of the world around him, simple things. Like how to use a toilet after someone showed him how to wee in a urinal! But autistic children are usually very intelligent, often very mathematically minded, some are gifted artists, and they very often have photographic memories. But its not without its downsides of course (I have always looked at the good points rather than the bad!) They often have trouble maintaining eye contact with people, and often won't talk to people that they don't know. They have real trouble socialising.

Here is a website (http://www.nationalautismassociation.org/) I have found very helpful in understanding this disorder.

Now, remember, your son was not diagnosed with it yet, the counselor just said he was displaying the behaviors. It is important to get a diagnosis before panicking.
