Is it illeagal for someone (ie: exhusband) to access another person's email account? I have had three separate email accounts and he has been able to access each of them, even though I never gave him the address, not to mention the password. Are there any legal ramifications for this? Wouldn't this be considered an invasion of privacy, and if so, what are the legal steps to take from here?
Thank you.

This is considered theft. Contact your local police dept. and file a complaint. They willadvise you from there.

Sounds like he may have installed a keylogger on your PC. Best to get your PC scanned by a knowledgeable 'geek'.

or he could be guessing your passwords, don't make them anything obvious like a name or birthday, have your PC scanned, make passwords that are random words and numbers and in the meantime contact the police to see what they can do to help. Also if his actions caused damage, like sent emails to your boss that got you fired for example you might be able to get damages. But it would be hard to prove he did it.

There could be another explanation.
For example, I have a Yahoo email account. Or hotmail, doesn't matter... it applies to any online account.
If you go to the forgot password section on one of these places, they ask for personal information and an answer to a secret question.
Well, anyone who knows me knows ALL my personal information and as for my secret question, let's say it is “what my mother's maiden name”…well, anyone who knew me, even an ex wife/husband WOULD know that answer.
That is why I don't put all the correct info, I use a fictional address for everything (something that I will ALWYS remember)
