View Full Version : Where did the member pictures go?

I can't find the pictures of our members forum, and I know that it's really old, so I thought I'd start a new one.

We have a lot of new members, and it's always nice to put a face to the names we see on the site. So I'll start things off. Let's go for a different take on this, a before and after thing.

So here it is, me, before, and now. Okay, apparently I can't post a picture when I start a thread, so I'll post the pictures on the first post. I hope I'm not the only one.

Nah, just a little German-American girl.

I had pigtails in the second photo, but you can't see them. My mom made the dress I have on.

That shirt my uncle is wearing? -- I still have it. I kept it after he died in 2002. It was my favorite shirt of his.

Have you seen you? You looked like Shirley Temple! You really did! You're Shirley Temple aren't you? You're not telling us something! ;)

Me as a baby, I looked like... well... me as a baby. But I did have the ugly 70's carpet in the background, the rocking chair I tried to refinish when Syd was born, and the baby magazine while sitting on my potty. You really can't beat that. It's uber cute. :)

Okay, young me. I think I'm around 8, maybe 9 in this picture. It was Easter, and we went to the Muttart. My mom made the dress I'm wearing, and that's not my first bunny. At least not my first real bunny. :)

If no one else decides to post, this thread will end up with pictures of me and WG, the only two people brave enough to post pictures! Come on people, post!

So here's another one of me. This is me on my wedding day, so I'm 24 in the picture. The handsome man standing next to me is my dad. We were getting ready, and we were goofing off.

I'm German. Nudity isn't a big deal in my culture. :)

I have naked pictures! Boys, don't get all excited, I'm around 2 weeks old in the pictures I'd post. :)

Okay, WG may be right, I don't seem to wear a lot in any of my pictures. Interesting.

Here's me at around 5 years of age with my kitty Whiskers, in the condo we bought shortly after we moved to Canada.

It was the 70's, that explains the carpet, the wallpaper, and all the horrible décor.

I'm German, and I was raised Lutheran. But remember, I didn't come to Canada until I was almost 4. My parents were in their 30's when they moved. In Germany nudity isn't a big deal. Nudity is a fact of life. The naked body is nothing unusual.

We went on vacation often, there are many beaches in Germany. There's not one vacation picture of me where I'm dressed. I'm on the beach, surrounded by people, and I'm completely naked. That was the norm.

It was very different when we came to Canada.

That's because it's cold in Canada.

LOL! We do have Spring, and summer, and fall, and winter. Granted, winter is the longest season, but we do have the others, and it's very nice here in the summer, even in the spring, once spring actually decides to kick in.

I grew up not being scared about my body. I'm still that way, so are my kids.

I remember the first time we took Jared to Penticton (our family vacation spot, we went there every year, when we didn't go back to Germany to visit). My parents were with us, Jared was not yet a year old. We were on the beach, he had a little swimmer on (it's like a bathing suit diaper, it's disposable). He was playing in the sand, and the sand got into everything. We were about to go back to the campground, so I took off his little swimmer, realized that sand was in places that sand shouldn't be. So before I put on a diaper, I decided to rinse the sand off in the lake.

At least 3 people said "You should put some clothes on your son. This isn't a nude beach. No one needs to see your sons penis". He was 11 months old! I was washing off the sand! To this day I didn't understand how people could freak out about that. It never would have happened in Germany. In fact, in Germany, when Jared was almost 3, we went to an outdoor swimming pool, and he swam naked, along with the rest of the kids, for the entire day. It wasn't an issue. In fact, it was the norm.

I think too many people think that nudity is bad, when it really isn't. Every one of us are naked under our clothes. Why should that be a shameful thing? I never will understand why.

How do you put the picture in the post? This is why I never post pictures of me.

Ah my young one, I will teach you. Take my hand, and do what I say, you will be fine. :)

1. look at the box you're posting on. There is a row of options on top of it, a big bold B, a slanted I, an underline U, lines (left, center and right) and more. If those options aren't there, you'll have to go outside the box, on the bottom, and click the advanced button. If those options are there, click the paper clip.

2. When you click the paper clip a new box will appear. The "Manage Attachments" box. Click browse.

3. Go to wherever you keep your pictures, find the one you want to post, then double click on it. Now you'll be back at the "Manage Attachments" box.

4. Right beside the three spaces that allow you to browse, you'll see "upload". Hit it.

5. When your picture is uploaded there will be a link, in blue, under the "current attachments" section in your "manage attachments" box.

6. Close the box by hitting "x".

7. You're now back at the "answer question" box. Click on the paper clip again, and you'll see your uploaded link under it. Click on it.

8. Your picture is not posted to your post. You can post around it, under it, wherever you want. When you submit your answer, your picture will be posted. :)

Nope. That was another Carol. I wouldn't identify myself, now, would I. ;) . I was in 6th grade and short, so had to stand on a table. Back row, last one on the right.

The boy in the middle of the back row, Duane -- years after this photo was taken, my dad died of a massive heart attack before the start of a church meeting that was supposed to be held at Duane's house.

I think it's a sign that we're human. Everyone has hair all over their body, some are just more pronounced than others. I actually got lucky. I'm German/Hungarian, I should be very hairy. Thankfully it all seems to have concentrated on the top of my head. :)

Thanks, Alty - as long as I'm your favorite aunt ... as you can see, I finally put some weight on.

Pshaw. If you want to know what putting weight on means, you should see me. :(

Judy, if I had to choose between you and my Aunt, you'd win hands down. I love her, don't get me wrong, and she's my favorite Aunt in Canada, but she can be a bit of a... well, she's German to the core. She's my favorite because she's the only one (her and my Uncle who's my dad's brother) that even includes me since my parents died. For the rest of my dads family (all of my moms family is in Germany) I apparently died when my parents did.

My Aunt invites us to Christmas dinner, Easter, Thanksgiving, always remembers my birthday and the kids. But, she's a very cold person. Hugs, showing emotion, aren't her thing. I often feel like she's only doing it because she promised my mom and dad, and not because she actually cares about me or my kids. My parents were the solar opposite of her, they were huggy, kissy, and wore their emotions on their sleeve.

You look like her, but that's where the similarity ends. You are far kinder person than she is.

Yes, you can blush now. :)

I think the problem is that your son needs glasses. And if that skillet has something to eat in it let me know ;)

Long hair is a choice and many don't wish to have it because it becomes a hassle to care for. Its obviouse by the picture your not one of those people.

I was not aware of Drumheller ,but just looked it up .Indeed ,the erosion of the sandstone makes for some wild natural sculptures .
The trail to Delicate Arch is only a little over 3 miles. But it was such a hot day that I easily consumed 2 liters of water round trip

If you ever get a chance to visit Drumheller it's a must see. The entire town is about dinosaurs, and the hoodoos. There are many great trails, a wonderful museum (Tyrell Museum) great camp sites (we go often) and so much to enjoy. It's one of our favorite places to go.

I can't deal with your winters... Summers.. or at least the time I was passing through there was decent... but I can't deal with those way below zero temperatures. Call me a wuss... but that's just one of the reasons I moved further south after college... besides better job opportunities.

It's a 14... it goes down the lane like that because she refuses to bend to get the ball closer to the lane before letting go of it. It's something that I've been working on for quite some time but she just prefers to lean.

If you lean over but don't bend your knees, and don't swing and slide the ball out of your hands toward the pins, the ball goes "thud!" very loudly and everyone looks at you. Been there, done that.

So long as she is having fun it works. And from what I have seen at least in my area the bowling alley has been going the way of the drive in movie. But to me its still fun to get out there and knock a few over once in awhile.

That was her actual color. Haplopelma lividum is also known as a Cobalt Blue. They are Asian (Thailand and Vietnam) and I always wondered why blue? Blue doesn't seem to match the natural color of leaves where they live. Most of the males are brown and smaller but all females are blue... some brighter than this one.

Odd. In the animal world it's usually the males that are colorful. The females are usually stuck with the dull brown nothing fun outfits.

Blue is an odd color. She's very very pretty though. I have a feeling you and I are the only ones that will think so. ;)

She's so fuzzy!

How was she on the friendly scale?

My son has been wanting a tarantula for a long time. When a few of the other pets pass on, I'd love to get him one, but I'd want one we can hold, not just watch. I already have two fish for watching.

odinn7
Jun 13, 2013, 01:59 PM
She is still alive, more colorful, but not quite as fuzzy now. She has a life span of 25-30 years so unless something goes wrong, I've got about 20 more years of her.

Brachypelma are nicely tempered. This one is a Brachypelma smithi (Mexican Red Knee) and they seem to be very docile. You would also want to check out the most common and easy to get tarantula which seems to be above and beyond docile... a good "learner" species... Grammostola rosea, or Chilean Rose Hair... often just referred to as a Rose Hair.

I have one of them too but can't seem to find anything newer than when I got her.

She looks a bit bluish too, with purple on top. Very pretty.

There are only a few pet stores in our area that even carry tarantulas. They're not colorful at all, very bland looking actually. But I've been told they're very docile, easy to handle.

My friend the entomologist did tell me that when I was ready for a tarantula, he'd get me one. Not sure if that's possible though, he's in California, I'm sure there would be a lot of red tape bringing a spider from there, to Canada. But he does go on spider hunts (for the museum) every year, and has no problem bringing those spiders back with him, so it may not be as difficult as I think it will be.

Scorpions are legal in most areas. In fact, the majority of scorpions aren't really deadly... they just do that on TV and movies for excitement.

I'm fine with spiders in the house, as long as they confine themselves to areas I'm not using. Like... they can be in the attic. And in those way up corners of the living room I only bother to dust a couple times a year. They can be in the windows. They can live in the basement as long as they're not by the bar or the washing machine.

I don't go out of my way to kill them, but if they get too close, I consider that they committed suicide by Heather.

Glueboards? :( :(

My kids will bring me spiders that are injured. Neither one of them has a fear of spiders, or any insects for that matter. It's actually very telling to watch my kids playing with the other kids in the neighborhood. At first the other kids were all terrified of bugs, especially spiders. Then they saw Syd and Jared picking them up, not showing any fear, and now the whole neighborhood of kids doesn't have any problem with bugs at all.

It really is a learned fear, especially if you live in an area were there are no truly poisonous spiders.

I can deal with the few poisonous spiders and the three poisonous snakes we have where I live. I really... REALLY hate being cold.

Though I admit... Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in summer were rather pleasant places from a tourists perspective. And I do remember a rather high percentage a very hot females. Though there might have been a local law that banished the ugly ones to the Arctic circle or something.

I have summer. It starts getting warm around March (though it can still snow, but it only lasts a few days). Our summers are actually very warm. In fact, I'm really not happy that our air conditioner broke down. I was boiling today, and it was one of the coldest days we've had this summer.

It doesn't start cooling down until September, and even then it's still warm enough to go out without a coat. We usually get snow in November, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but November is the average. The snow and cold last until around February, March. January is our coldest month typically.

You'll have to come visit sometime Smoothy, in the summer. You'd die in the winter. ;)

Stupid camera busted. I'm actually shocked it lasted this long. We bought it right before Syd was born, digital, refurbished, 5 megapixels. It was the cat's meow back then. But it sucked batteries like vampires suck blood. We went to a wedding once, I brought my camera since I was doing a scrapbook for the couple and wanted tons of pictures. I used 4 pairs of batteries in 6 hours. Good batteries, not the crap you buy at the dollar store!

It finally died. Now I put batteries in and it immediately shuts off with the signal that the batteries are dead. They're brand new batteries!

I think I need a new camera. :(

Mine is 11 years old, and I bought it refurbished, which means it was returned because it wasn't working well, and they supposedly fixed it. NOT!

But I really can't complain. It lasted a long time But it's definitely time for a new one.

The sign of a good Boudoir photo is when it makes the subject of the photograph blush. :)

What's amazing is that absolutely none of them show anything I'd be ashamed to show my mother. Apparently, you can't get REALLY naughty pictures put into a book from any of the companies that do it.

So not a single photo is actually indecent exposure.

And they STILL make me blush.

I remember it well. We couldn't find her anywhere, and we spent hours looking.

Then I asked a former member with a strange sneeze to look into it, and he found all sorts of info on her.

Scary boy that sneezer. He has resources that really scare the crap out of me. ;)

I wouldn't count on him publishing anything anytime soon. The kid is working 20 plus hours a day, 7 days a week. He emails me once in a while, but we used to talk for hours every day. I miss him. But he's no longer a student, he's in the trenches now, and it's not easy.

Proud parent. I think that was her name.

It was a few years ago. She loved to type in a different font. She posted pictures of herself and her husband that were clearly pictures she had found online. She was banned when she faked her husbands death for sympathy.

She claimed to be in her her early 30's.

Our super sleuther found out that she was in her late 60's, had been married 4 times, and all her husbands, past and present, were alive and well.

I begged for him to tell me how he found this info out. He wouldn't. Trade secrets apparently.

But Bella and I spent days online looking, and found nothing. I'm still baffled how Sir Sneezy did it.

I'd like to know too. He wouldn't tell.

I'm pretty sure Ben has the same skills. He's shocked me a time or two in the past. There's something these boys aren't telling us!

These are a few years old. It wasn't a planned trip. Syd was at a sleepover and a friend came by with an extra ticket to the lego exhibit at our museum. So Jared went, and these are the pictures of their trip. :)

What do you mean, you are not Canadian? You are a citizen, but I know you are German decent. You have socialized medicine. You will receive Old age security, and CDN pension when you turn 65, even if you leave the country Alty. So why do u say u are not CDN?

Alty
Jan 29, 2014, 04:52 PM
I'm not a Canadian citizen Tickle. So I'm not Canadian. I'm a landed immigrant. I'm actually still a German citizen.

I have lived in Canada since I was almost 4 years old, but I never became a citizen.

I can't vote, I can't go on jury duty, I can't get a Canadian passport, because I'm not a Canadian citizen. I'm just a resident. :(

Jan 29, 2014, 05:04 PM
Yes some, not all. But that doesn't make me a Canadian citizen. You posted that I'm Canadian. I can't make that claim because I'm not a citizen. I do live in Canada, I do and can work in Canada, I pay taxes, and I receive some of the benefits of a citizen, but I am not a citizen of Canada, and cannot make any claims to be.

Isn't voting one of the benefits of being a Canadian citizen? Isn't a Canadian passport one of the benefits? I do receive some of the benefits of Canadian's, but not all, because I'm not Canadian.

It's not meant as a slight. I'd love to be a citizen, but it's too expensive for my family right now. I would be proud to call myself a Canadian. But sadly, I'm not.

No worries Tickle. This thread is for people that want to post their pictures, or see pictures of the other members. No one needs to feel as if they have to post a picture. That's not at all the intent of this thread. If you don't want to post a picture, you really don't have to explain why. That's your prerogative. :)
