I have a vent-less gas log so why do I need a damper clamp to keep the damper open?

Because you have ventless logs in a vented box. All vented boxes have the clamp and inspectors will write you up during a home inspection if they are removed.

Its called a ventless gas log, but it requires the chimney to be able to vent. Ventless just means you don't have to run a chimney liner.

And a carbon monoxide tester and oxygen depletion sensor right next to it, right? Lol. My code doesn't even allow ventless fireplace/free standing stoves, or logs, but they still sell them in my area. We just aren't allowed to install or service them. Homeowners can do whatever they want with seemingly no restrictions.

CO detector is 2 ' away and has auto O2 sensor. It is actually a convertible box. I put it in a chase so that someone else can replace the top insert and add double wall pipe. We only use it in a 13ft. High great room.
