My dog is having difficulty standing or walking. X-rays have not revealed any bone problems. It began with pain in one of the front paws with no visible signs.

What further testing has the vet recommended? How old is the dog? How long has this been going on?

He is a 7 year old Pyrenees. The vet examined and did X-rays that is all.

And after x-rays the vet simply sent you home? No recommendations for further testing? No prognosis?
I'd get a new vet.

It has been just a couple of days that he has not been able to stay standing. The hurting front paw has been a week or so. Vet prescribed pain meds.

So not being able to stand is a new symptom, one the vet was not aware of the last visit? Obviously the pain meds aren't doing anything It's time to go back to the vet.

Sometimes when pets have pain and there is nothing visible on x-rays, it could be nerves that are being pinched.
Are you ensuring that your pooch is getting plenty of rest? Anytime a pet is acting neurologic or painful, they should be confined while taking pain killers. This ensure that whatever is injured isn't being overly used and causing more injury.
If your vet is failing to provide answers for your dog, there is nothing wrong in finding a second opinion. If your dog is very painful and you feel as if not much is being done, find another vet.
