I am removing a White-Rodgers thermostat in my apartment. When installing my Honeywell RTH7000 I found the wires are all too short by about 1/4 inch. Pulling on the wires does not help. Suggestions?

If its on drywall I would just chip a little out to get more wire out of the wall. Or see if you can get some slack up from the basement. Some wire may be stappled but some wire stapples keep the wire fairly loose. Good luck.
