I am an ex-offender who had a barber licence years ago. I would like to get my barber career back and earn a living, although the Barber Board requires that I pay about $800.00 in fees and retake the Barber Exam. Is there assistance available to me in order to help me pay these costs? (this is in the State of Ohio)

Get a job or a second part time job. Its only $800 not $80,000 and won't take but a couple months at most to put it aside.

$800 isn't really all that much. Do you have friends and family that could all chip in to help you out?

Yes, this does sound like a "no brainer" to this question, although getting a job in the area I'm living in, as an ex-offender on parole, has been a big challenge for over eight months now (with no luck so far). Thank you for your response.

Getting a job in this economy is tough for someone without a criminal record who has a college degree. Unfortunately it's going to be even harder for you.

How long have you been clean? What was your offense?

Keep trying... there are lots of jobs where you don't handle money. (where your ex-con status will matter the most) And like I said.. a part time job doesn't have to be one you plan to retire doing... its just to set aside some extra money.

A lot of people tend to overlook a lot of potential jobs without specifically thinking they are, or intending to. Don't rely on newspaper listings... keep an eye open for help wanted signs... and ask around... most jobs are never advertised.
