Hello,
I just had a question as it pertains to HIV testing during pregnancy and delivery. I live in Michigan. First, I would like to state that prior to pregnancy I have been tested for HIV and am negative. Therefore, throughout my pregnancy I refused the HIV test since I have only been with my husband and I already know my status. I heard that during labor and delivery if your HIV status is unknown they will test you for HIV without telling you. All the hospital needs is signed general consent for medical treatment. Is this true? If I wish to refuse should I tell my OB/GYN ahead of time or should I write this on my general consent for medical treatment.
