I have an older Lawnboy lawnmower and recently it started smoking and sucking up fuel like crazy. I think it is the float in the carburetor. Replaced the float and gaskets but still can not get it to stop doing that. Question is it seems like the float has to be set to a very ,very small gap to keep it from flooding the engine. If that is done then the float bowl becomes hard to get fuel into. I adjusted it to a point that the engine will run on low speed without smoking but not on high speed.
Any suggestions to why this is happening?

2 cycle or 4?

If it's 4, is it using oil? It sounds like bad piston rings from what you're describing.

No it is a 2 cycle, it seems to be flooding for some reason, there is not much to the fuel system. It does have one of those push button primer on the handle. It uses an air pressure action prime.
