Hi there,
I am working at a university in H-1B visa status and my wife is in F-1 at the same university. My wife didn't have scholarship in one of terms in 2012, so she had to pay tuition on her own. I filled out a tuition reduction form to show my family member is taking classes. I know once we reach a certain amount in tuition the rest becomes taxable. We were notified by a staff, in Student Accounts, that we have a taxable amount, which has been added to my paycheck. In box 1 of my w2, the taxable amount has been included and in box 14 it shows tuition$$$$. My wife received a 1098T and the amount of required expenses is different from the tuition on my w2. So I think the tuition I paid is not included on her 1098T. I was wondering how and if I can get the tax for this tuition back? I tried to use H&R software but failed to find anywhere to type in the information of the tuition.
Thanks
