Make sure wifi is turned on - slide up the notification area (bottom right) and touch Wi-Fi.

I've done that but when I press the wifi option it doesn't do anything

Does the Wi-Fi option in that menu light up as if it's on and working?

The line underneath the wifi icon remains blue the wifi icon itself is green but not brightly lit like it was before.. when I try to turn on via settings it just says turning on but doesn't amount to anything

Well it certainly sounds like the wifi is not functioning properly on the tablet if the underline and the icon don't become green.

Is this what you did? Samsung Galaxy Tab: Steps For Hard Reset (http://www.technipages.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-steps-for-hard-reset.html)

Otherwise you can try here: Support - Wi-Fi Tabs GT-P7510/M32 | Samsung Galaxy Tab (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/GT-P7510MAVXAB)
(that's the model I have)

Yes sweety that's exactly what I did but it didn't rectify the problem so god knows what's up with it... looks like it's going back to argos lol
