I have a very small leak in my 5 ton heat pump.Is there any good stop leak for r22? I have seen some advertised but I want to be sure it works before I damage my whole system.

When there is 1 leak, the lineset. if that's where the leak is, is usually starting to go. Stopleak should be the last resort and then pray for a year or two before going for a new 401 system.

Ma, you meant 410a system. And I also agree, it depends on where the leak is. If its at a threaded connection or valve, you are best off to repair or replace the leaking component. If on a copper line or joint, best to rebraze. As last resort, try the leak stopleak. Worst case senerio, it doesn't work and you either properly repair the leak, or upgrade to a new system.

Ha, yep, I had a 410 when I was a kid. First real gun I ever owned past a bb gun. Ive heard of the 401, but never had one in my hands. That's why its so easy for me to remember the new 410 refrigerant.. lol. Maybe that's why I always remember r22, cuase I have had a lot of 22's in my day.

Best stop leak for R22 or any other refrigerant is a brazing rod. Only time I'd try stop leak is on something on it's last leg anyway.

Once again I have to agree with ma and Grady. I have a can of stop leak (dont even remember that actual name of it) sitting on a shelf at the shop (its been there a few years), and just can't bring myself to use it. Just waiting for that old system that they are ready to replace, I can't find the leak, and then Ill give er a go, and then most likely Ill replace the complete system when the stop leak works like I suspect it will... lol.
