My father died when I was 19, I am now 27, he owed over $70,000 in back child support. Am I or my mother able to receive this through Social Security? Or any other way? He had no assets or money to his name.

He's dead, it's over.

You can't collect a debt from someone that's deceased. Also, it's been 8 years. The time to sue him or try to collect the money, would have been before you were an adult, and definitely before he passed away.

Did he even have any assets when he passed? You can't get blood from a stone.

Thank you so much for all your wisdom.

Really now... what, exactly, did you want me to tell you?

You're being sarcastic with me for what reason? You asked, I answered. Did you want me to make something up? I told you that you can't collect... is it my fault that you can't?

You talk about wisdom... I'm not the one coming here asking questions with obvious answers.

Did he have any assets? Was there a will?

Truth told, they time to do something about this was at the time of his death. Since your mother has waited 8 years, she would have been entitled to reimbursement not you, most likely all assets have been dispursed and it would be too late to go to probate.

The child, unless the mother was dead has not rights to the money, the mother at the time of death could make a claim against the estate. Social security does not owe or pay child support. It was stated the man had no money and no estate, so there was nothing to collect.

There is no money, and the ability to collect died with him, since he left no money or estate.
