My husband's oldest daughter will be turning 18 soon and also has a 15 year old. Should there be a reduction in child support since the payment is based on 2 children? If there is a reduction, what percentage. Should it be cut in half? Does it matter whether the 18 year old goes to college whether there should be a reduction? Is he obligated to contribute to her education if there is no mention of it in the divorce decree? We live in Tennessee, if that matters.

Hello when:

If the agreement between the parents does not call for him to contribute, then he is not required to. There isn't a law about it. However, I can't believe that the decree doesn't say when child support ends, or discusses her post high school education.

If it doesn't address the issue at all, you should call up the family attorney who handled the divorce and demand that he finish the job.

PS> If he can help his daughter, why wouldn't he?

Yes it matters if she is or is going to college, as long as she attends I believe it is till the age of 24 he must still pay support set forth by the court.
