How do I know if there are water pipes or other things that could be damaged in the area of the slab that I need to break out in order to run the new toilet drain pipe? I'm only moving the floor drain about 1' further out from the wall and about 3'to 4' to the side.

You don't, unless you can get the original plumber or builder to send you the layout. What type of piping do you have?

Yep, hard to tell if the water lines will be in the way. All you can do is "carefully" break up the concrete and carefully dig down to relocate. If the water lines are indeed under the slab, they should be UNDER the slab, meaning they won't be directly in the concrete. So if you take your time breaking and removing the concrete, you just have to be double careful when digging for the drainage.

I think they might be calling the toilet drain the "floor" drain.

Even with the original plans you can't count on them to be safe. "As built" and blue prints are often different. Just be cautious when braeking out the slab, you can open a floor without crushing pipes
