I had an old computer crash. I reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition, the original operating system from the manufacturer CD. I cannot update windows because Microsoft websites are not compatible with IE6, which is the only version available from the original install. I tried to download Firefox as well but was not compatible, requires SP2. Any ideas of how I can update to XP SP1a using IE6.

I have tried to update to IE8 but I get an error message about a bad dll file. Search on other forums indicate that this dll is in SP2.

Turn on Automatic updates, set to auto install and wait..
Or grab a standalone SP3 install, here for example : Click Here (http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=24)
