Hi there! According to The world's most trusted name in belts, hoses & hydraulics | Gates Corporation (http://www.gates.com), there is no 1998 1.8td engine. There is however an engine like that listed for 1991-96 model years, perhaps that's what you have. Any way go to that website & you'll get an answer. But do yourself a favor. Search the part number just to be sure you have a non-interference engine. I got 2 different answers on this site for my Escort wagon. You should expect to pay around $400 if it's a non-interference model & $900+ if it is & has engine damage. Of course, this is all dependent on what the labor rate is in your area. Here in NJ, it's by the way. $65-$80/hour.
