Simply go to their profiles and UNfriend them.
Click the Friends button and it's the bottom option.

You cannot remove the Facebook ads, but least they are controlled.

Conflicting stories. One person told me in the add friends there is a little x to delete.
I do not see it. Went to the profile page but there is nothing at the bottom either.

Click on the Friends name to go to their page, at the top right you'll see a graphics that says "Friends" with a checkmark in it. Hover over that that and a pop-up will appear with the option to Unfriend.

Went to the profile page. Upper right hand corner . Has find friends. 2 graphics. One a little lock
The other an asterisk drop down menu categories not related to deleting friends. May ask my son if he can figure it out for me?

Or go the quickness way go to your friends list and press friends on the right side of your friend, press friend and go down to unfriend them.
And no you Can't remove commercials.

You can easily delete friends. All you need to go to your friend list click on the particular's friend profile which you want to delete and tehre is this drop down button friend scroll it down there is option of unfriend click on it and it will get remove from your friend list. Similarly for all these commercials click on the page of commercial and click on unlike option in drop down like button
