No need to - fasten the top plate and sides and blocks, and angle short screws at the bottom of the studs, and the bottom plate can float, and will be held in by wall covering.

Use landscape timber adhesive on the bottom of the plate. Make sure the PT lumber is dry. $5 at HD. Works great. Even fills in small gaps and will keep bugs out.

I've wondered about adhesive... I remember countless bugs under the walls in my parents' basement. I also remember the time I used adhesive to keep yellow jackets out of a rubble foundation and they ate right through it. Does it really keep out those big flat bugs under the plate that look like trilobites? Do you use a lot?

Good old pill bugs. I use the different adhesives in different ways. Foam adhesive for insulating foam, landscape timber adhesive for wood. They also sell some for stone. I clad a 2x8 wall with synthetic stone and landscape adhesive 10 years ago and it still looks great. Enjoy your posts.
