Make them review the cameras in the store to see if your child was caught putting items in your purse.

You are assuming there were cameras.

To the OP, usually these civil fines are in lieu of prosecuting you in court. If you can't pay the fine, then they will have you arrested and tried.

You find a way to pay it.

If not, they may still turn this over to the police for criminal action. Then you will end up with a fine, a minor record of shop lifting, and also still owe them the money that the court will most likely order you to pay.

So you ask them for a payment plan.

* how do you know the child did it ? Just assuming ?

Hello nan:

You're not guilty of ANYTHING... Don't pay, and if they arrest you, make them PROVE it From what you say, they can't... IF they sue you, sue them back.

Personally, I don't think they'll arrest you OR sue you.
