Hi,
So I got caught by an undercover security officer stealing food from a grocery store. It is my first offence and I have no previous criminal record. I stole about 50 dollars worth of food. I just recently moved out on my own for university.. and as most of you know, tuition fees are extensive. I'm not excusing my actions - but I didn't have enough money for food (I'm also a type one diabetic - which means I need to maintain a regular healthy diet). Will I get a criminal record? Or charged? I've never been involved with the law at all so this is really new for me..
Also, my friend stole from a BC Liquor store and a grocery store then again from another grocery store a week later... What is her likely outcome? She has no previous record... and its not like her at all.. But she's also a student and living on her own... do you think she will get a criminal record? What is her best option?
If anyone could help me that would be so grateful.. our court dates are coming up at the end of the month so any help would be amazing.

Thank you

You seem not to know or accept how wrong this is, and want to make excuses, I hope you don't try these on a judge, to be honest, it justs make me and I am sure it will the judge, just want to be harder on you.

Admiting guilt, not trying to make an excuse is what a person really does if they are sorry.

But you ask them for a first offender program.
