I live in an apartment and not getting hot water in the shower but the kitchen and bathroom sinks have hot water. When I turn off the cold water valve and keep the hot water valve on only a little bit of water comes out of the bath and shower. When I spoke with the super he said that it would cost me at least $70 for labor and did not know how much for the parts yet. I wanted to know if I can do the work myself instead of getting outside help. Shower product is Delta. Thanks

I had the same problem at home, I called the gas company who had done it and they came to fix it, I'm not so sure how you going to do this yourself... I would just get out door help. Although if this is a money problem, maybe you could call someone you know to take a look for you.
Hope this helped:)

It has nothing to do with the gas company you have problem with your shower valve if it is a rented apartment it is land lord responsibility to fix it for you, talk to the manager or the owner to fix it for you.
It sounds like you have some debris in hot port of the shower valve you need to remove the cartridge and flush out the debris or replace the cartridge, good luck.

Hi Queens and welcome to The Plumbing Page at ANHD.com.

I wanted to know if I can do the work myself instead of getting outside help.f you're handy we can walk you through the repair. Is this a single handle or two knobs? How old is it? Back to you, Tom

I bought the apartment in August so it would be my responsibility to fix. The previous owner renovated everything but no one had lived in this apartment since Nov 2011. I'm not sure if the water not running for 9 months has anything to do with it. It's a brand new single handle Delta. Thanks

Hello Lostinqueen,

Yes if the shower is not used for a while you will have problem with cartridge what you need to do shut the water to house remove the cartridge inspect the seals the housing of the cartridge and the valve clean any debris you see, now turn on the water for a few seconds to flush out all the debris out, assemble the cartridge see if water flows good if not I would suggest to replace the cartridge, open the link below watch the youtubes will show how to remove the cartridge, also if you call Delta they will send you a knew cartridge for free, Good luck.
