If 5x - 17 = -x + 7, then x =

Basic substitution/cancellation here, right?
5x-17 = -x+7
(+x) + 5x-17 = (+x) -x+7
6x -17 = 7
6x -17 + (17) = (17) + 7
6x = 24
Now, you solve for x... ;)

This is a very simple question.
5x - 17 = -x + 7
Move the x to one side and the constants to the other.
5x + x = 7 + 17
6x = 24
x = 4
My personal advice is to do more of these questions. They help build your skills.
