If 5x - 17 = -x + 7, then x =

Basic substitution/cancellation here, right?

5x-17 = -x+7

(+x) + 5x-17 = (+x) -x+7

6x -17 = 7

6x -17 + (17) = (17) + 7

6x = 24

Now, you solve for x... ;)

This is a very simple question.

5x - 17 = -x + 7

Move the x to one side and the constants to the other.

5x + x = 7 + 17

6x = 24

x = 4

My personal advice is to do more of these questions. They help build your skills.
