My job transferred me from Cincinnati to Cleveland back in July 2012. They paid for my relocation, but not my rent or expenses. I am obligated to stay for at least a year. Would like to know if I can still claim rent and maybe utilities for half of the year since my primary residence is still in Cincinnati? What happens next year if I end up staying longer than a year?

The fact that your employer paid for your relocation expenses indicates that this is a permanent job change, not a temporary one. The fact that you retained your Cincinnati home is a personal one unrelated to your employment.

Given these facts, you will NOT be allowed to deduct the expenses in Cleveland UNLESS you intend to quit the job before the end of the one-year period.
