Hello,
My Honda CRX 1.5L needs to have the timing belt fixed. I bought the car knowing this was the problem, but I did not realize that the Crankshaft pulley had no timing marks on it.
My question is, Can I simply put the #1 piston at TDC and assume that with the cam aligned with marks that the crank is set properly? It was not until I got working on it that I found that there were no marks what so ever. The Chilton Manuel that I have simply says to look for a painted white dot on the Crankshaft pulley, but mine must have worn off or something because I have looked and looked and it simply is not there. I can however get the TDC by your straw method just fine, but I wanted to be sure this is OK.
Thank You,

Set the crankshaft so that the No. 1 piston is at top dead center (TDC). Align the groove on the teeth side of the timing belt drive pulley to the arrow pointer on the oil pump.
