You are the putative father? Your ex spouse gave her to relatives, or ex girlfriend? What state are they in? Has a DNA test been done?

If you want to stop an adoption, you NEED to get a lawyer and file for custody ASAP. In most states, in order for an adoption to proceed, BOTH parents need to consent to it.

However, with the child already placed, and court possibly already happened, you MUST have a lawyer to contest it or you will lose.

The first thing is to see if DC has a Putative Father Registry and, if so, register.

The next step is to go to Family Court where she lived and file for Custody of the child. Have you done so yet?
