My niece dropped my great niece off at my house on October 24 2012 she has been by three times to see the baby which is 11 months old and has called one time and didn't even ask about the baby. CPS has stepped in on her and came to my house and done a NC assessment and gave me and my husband leagel caregiver and guardianship and we thought that was all good but now we are being told that if mom straightens up they can step back in and give her the baby back and now we are getting jerked around by CPS with getting any answers me and my husband wants full custody of the baby so we can give her a good home. The mom has not done any medical for her I took the baby to the dr. on the 27th and she was giving six shots do to the fact mom has never took her to get any and she still hasn't called to check on the baby. I just want to try and some info on what to do next

Where? What State/Country?

Where is the baby's father?

You were given temporary caregiver status so you can make medical decisions about her care. But it usually takes a lot for a court to terminate a parent's rights, which is what you are asking for. It's unlikely you will get that especially after so short a time. The courts will want to give the mother the chance to shape up. So it might be a year or more before you can apply for permanent custody or adoption.

Also the father can also step in and take custody if he can show fitness.
