View Full Version : Caulk under Grout?

I just had a home built and have had nothing but trouble with the flooring company. After them having to relay the tile 3 times I have now found caulking marks all over the floors and some at joints that show it is coming from under the grout.

Is this something that is standard, do they use the caulking to seal below grout or are they just trying to use less grout and be cheap about the install? I am very apprehensive about their abilities now. Any answers would be greatly helpful.

Sounds like an attempt to use far less grout I believe and in the process build a much weaker, less durable tile floor.

That's what I thought. I am going to have a flooring expert check it out to see what I should do. Thanks for your insight.

They probably installed the tile with mastic that is not drying for some reason and that is what you see oozing out. Ideally, your independent expert will have them rip it all out and use thinset mortar the next time.
