I always understood it this way:
- a commitment ring meant that you were exclusive, i.e. dating no one else but each other, and you viewed the relationship as long term.
- an engagement ring is directly related to a promise of marriage (but not a legal contract)

Thanks I thought it was something like that I am trying to think of a way to show my boyfriend that I only want him but don't want to be pushy by asking him to marry me someday just yet

Well I think you should just be honest with him... if your ready for a long term relationship then give him a commitment ring and it will show him how committed you really are too him.

A commitment ring is what used to be called the "promise ring". The preclude to the engagement ring. It means that you two date only each other and commit to be faithful to each other.

A commitment means that you are committed to only him and will date no one but him - without the intent of being married.

An engagement ring means that you are committed to him and only him and there will be a wedding in the future.

Well since an engagement ring leads to marriage... then I'd say with a commitment ring, you don't lose HALF on the "trade-in"! j/j! :D

Oh I was just teasing and being silly! :) I was trying to say that with marriage you lose half on the trade-in (normally during divorce!)

Typed words are so hard to hear! ;)

He wants you and also have the chance to back out without looking like a jackass.
