I have a guest bedroom with 2 outlets and one light switch, when I turn the light switch on or off anything that is connected turns on and off, how do I disconnect one of the outlets so this doesn't happen

Typically only the top or bottom of an outlet is connected to a switch. Depending on how it is wired you may be able to get unswitched power. Turn off the switch and try all the outlets and then get back to us.
