I was diagnosed with COPD in May of this year an am using an inhaler twice a day. My neighbor told me that I am too young to have COPD. I am 47 years old and I want to now if it is common in people of my age group

According to what I just read, it's not real common but isn't all that rare either.

Basically, I think I would believe the doctor before the neighbor.

I know a few 18 year olds that have it. And I know many late 40 people with it.

Using a inhaler twice a day is a large dosage, so yours sounds fairly serious. Some people just use it when they have issues. Is this perhaps not actually not a inhaler but a "Disc" often blue that gives out meaured doses of powdered medication.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is very common. Anyone who has ever smoked will be diagnosed with it even after years of quitting. COPD actually sounds worse the it is, but critical to older individuals who have smoked all their lives and usually end up on oxygen for the rest of it.

Why would you believe your neighbour over a trained medical professional? That baffles me.

A number of medical conditions have an age that they usually start presenting. There is one, I would like to say Parkinson's but I am not sure, that usually shows late in life but depending on genetics it can show earlier. It is a bell curve. That just means that there is a range that 95% of people will start presenting, the other five percent will show earlier or later.
