Hi!
I rent a 2 bedroom apt. and have an old Honeywell manual thermostat (https://docs.google.com/open?id=1uD0jb6cxd--CS5Vy2j0ni3bydSSr2dWYtYsrTMvR6SRsyx4ZBs1StCbL_M4gP fs3j-DZM9UMlWpPtUhO). I just bought a digital Honeywell (https://customer.honeywell.com/resources/techlit/TechLitDocuments/69-0000s/69-2416ES.pdf) so I can more closely manage the temperature as it gets rather cold here in the Winter. After installing the new one, it took a very long time to heat up the house, and the heat would run for much longer than before. After some problem-solving, it appeared that what was happening was that the fan was coming on immediately and blowing out cold air from the basement. The old one would "click", you could hear the furnace burning down below, and then the fan would come on a few seconds to minutes later and blow out nice, toasty air. The new one "clicks" and the fan turns on right away.
I called Honeywell customer support, and they said at first to try changing a setting to where the fan is controlled by the thermostat instead of the furnace, and when I called back after that didn't work, they said it was normal behavior for a digital thermostat and that I'm out of luck. Any ideas? Am I stuck with my ancient thermostat?
The details: I have 5 wires sticking out of my wall: blue, green, white, yellow, red. All but the blue were hooked up to the old one, and that's all I hooked up to the new one. Each color was already hooked up to its corresponding letter: green=g, red=r, etc. so I followed suit. The furnace is an American Standard Freedom 80, model #aud080c936j1, but that's all I can figure out past that. I don't have any other details or know where to find them.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm at my wits end!
Thanks!
