I put in a brand new filter and my water tastes bad and smells like mildew. Any suggestions how to fix this problem !

Try pouring bleach in with filter and let it sit in it for a while before flushing out. It sounds like the inside of the filter case is full of mold and mildew. Do not drink that water until the filter case is cleaned and soaked in bleach a few times until smell is gone.
