Earlier today I was charged with 'Fraud under $5000'. I purchased a bottle of liquor from the LCBO yesterday, and tried to return a new one (from the store) with the old receipt. It was for $48.50.

Since I've never been arrested before, or ever gotten into trouble with the law, I was let go and given a fingerprint date, and a court date. The office also gave a me a number (1-800-265-0451) to seek free legal advice.

I am unsure on how to proceed with this and hence would appreciate any kind of help/suggestions regarding this matter.

Thank You.

1. Go in for finger print and photo as requested.
2. call the phone number and get free legal advice.

Most likely it would be a plea agreement for some type of first offender program, where after a fine and probation, there will be no record of this

Thanks for the advice.

Should I consider hiring a lawyer for this? I would prefer not to, since I believe it is quite expensive.

And what kind of probation might it be? From what the officer told me, and from what I've read on the internet, there may be some sort of a Diversion Program and a community service.
