How do you communicate with him? -- ASL or lip reading or touch?

We use asl we are trying to teach him to lip read but he shows no interest in it.

I'm thinking he might be frustrated about something. Do you see any kind of a pattern with his outbursts, like if he tries to do something and fails or if he wants to ask a question but doesn't know how?

No not really only when you try to get him to sit and work or stop him from doing something he knows to be naughty otherwise if given a task not school related he will keep trying till he gets it right then he just gets really happy.

How do you try to stop him from doing something naughty? And what would those naughty things be?

We tell him no and have him sit with us he is fine if he is sitting with my husband but hits, bites, or scratches me. Like getting into the cabinets or playing with the oven and stove and trying to play with lighters also he tends to play with any body care products in the bathroom when he says he has to go potty.

One of our members is a woman, a teacher, named teacherjenn4. I will PM her to look at this thread. She teaches young children his age and may have some good ideas.

Meanwhile, let me think about this. Please feel free to add more information that might help us figure out what is going on in your son's head.

How do you stop him from bad behavior?

How do you discipline him?

I am also a Kindergarten teacher. Is he mainstreamed into a regular education class, or does he attend a Special Education class? How is he being disciplined at school and at home? What are his consequences for poor behavior? How long have these behaviors been going on? (biting, hitting, scratching). One more question... are you located in the US?
