I am a fourteen year old boy. I've had a normal life with the exception of my parents divorce. I have already hit puberty, and I went through it normally like any other boy would. I've liked girls ever since I hit puberty, but now I'm getting these thoughts that are telling me I'm gay, and all this other horrible stuff. I don't know why I'm thinking this, it just started of nowhere a month ago. I've done research, and I don't know if I have OCD or whatever. I don't want to be gay I can tell you that, these thoughts don't please me they bother me... A LOT! They're not thoughts of gay things, just thoughts telling me I'm gay and how horrible it is and I could go on... I just want them to go away, I don't and never have wanted to be gay. I just don't know what to do. I know there would be nothing wrong with being gay but it's just not for me. PLEASE HELP!

I think you are gong through a rough emotional time. It may help to talk to a counselor. May be a counselor at your school or your doctor can refer you to someone.

Yes, after the hurricane Sandy is gone and school is back on, I think I will. Thank you!

I think it will help you quite a bit. I wish you well, and stay safe.

You are developing including your mind, body, chemical makeup, etc. You are also on the hormone train too. All of this is new and sometimes things just pop into your head. Calm down and stress less, and enjoy the ride. You have several more years of developing to do so don't hit the panic button just yet. Go for a run, do something fun, or whatever you like to do to calm down. These won't be the only odd thoughts you get. The key is not to panic!

Another confusing thing about puberty is defining your own ideas of masculinity. I don't think you're gay, but are reacting to how to be the man you want to be. Knowing what kind of man you don't want to be is a common first step.

Are you and your father still close? Got any brothers or sisters?

Thanks for the help, I have been a little stressed now that I'm a freshman in high school. It's tough because I was used to a little middle school and now it's so huge and there are so many different people. Thank you for the advice I will try to stay calm!

Ok thank you for the advice! I'm getting sudden realization because of this, and I still see my dad on the weekends, every weekend to be exact. We still remain very close. And I have two older brothers, and one younger brother.

That says it all.

If you are gay than that's not such a bad thing. But the fact that you like girls, and that you're so disgusted by the thought of being gay (I hope that being disgusted by the thought of being gay doesn't mean you're disgusted by people that are gay) shows that you're not.

Every person goes through thoughts like these, even if those thoughts are unfounded.

Be who you are, no matter who that is. But from what you've posted, you're not gay.

No, I said in the passage that I know there would be nothing wrong with being gay. But I also said it's just not for me. And no I don't mind gays, but I don't support them, so I'm neutral when it comes to my opinion on gays. But thanks for your help I greatly appreciate it!
