I am on H1-B Visa.I worked in Newyork City for 5 months in 2006 and was living in Newjersey. Will I have to pay Tax to Newyork? I went to a Tax consultant and he says that I will have to pay tax to Newyork.I am really confused.Because, I didn't pay Newyork tax for 2005(in which I worked in Newyork city for 5 months and was living in Newjersey.I was on OPT during 2005).H&R Block did my taxes for 2005.
Kindly let me know, how this works.

Thanks,
Kumar

You pay taxes to NY because you worked there. You file a tax return with NJ because you live there, but NJ will give you a credit for taxes paid tyo NY, so no taxes should be due to NJ.
