Hi hennie2,
A fear of heights, known as- Acrophobia-is an extreme and irrational 'fear' suffered by many people, the majority of whom are women.

Most people experience a degree of 'natural fear' when exposed to heights, especially if there is little or no protection around them, those who are confident in these situations are said 'to have a head for heights', however Acrophobia sufferers can experience panic attacks, agitation and various other syptoms, needing to get themselves down as quickly as possible.

Sometimes this fear of heights can be attributed to a traumatic experience that involved height somewhere earlier in their life, resulting in this fear development.
I am wondering if you can think way back, take it slowly, maybe accidents you may have had when you were a child or maybe it was something very simple when you were very young or perhaps you were push down the stairs or slide at the park, I am just searching in the dark just to give you some direction to where you may need to go with this, sometimes silly little things can have the most impact on ones life for what ever reason and the imagination will build it into something quite different.

Have a think, paper and pen in hand to jot down any thing that may be a clue to the answer... if in fact this is what the problem is.

Sometimes hypnoptherapy can work... as it does with smoking for instance.
It may be able to find what you cannot remember, however I do think that you should speak to your Doctor before taking this up,to be sure that all medical avenues have been thoroughly investigated.Hypnotheraphy sessions can be really expensive.

I do not recommend that you go to places that are heigh just to test yourself, this needs to be sorted out first.

My advice... go to Doctor first,I know you have been already by the meds that you are taking... not to sure if they are right for this condition, although they will help when you suffer an attack, ask him/her if there could be a problem with the balance, maybe a CT scan which could clarify any medical condition.

Speak to your parents, friends you were at school with, they may have better memory of past years etc etc... anything at all that might have happened in your past that you don't recall... mets could be a connection somewhere!

Make some enquiries about Hypnotherapy...

Takecare.
