Hello,
I am a doctor in india. 12 years ago, I went to dental college hospital , chennai seeing a black stained area along the fissure of occlusal surface of the two molars in the left mandible on lower jaw. I was not told properly what problem I was having . The intern there drilled my teeth and filled it with amalgam. I did not have any tooth ache or sensitivity to hot or cold liquids.
My question is ; I want to know whether it was caries tooth and the treatment which was given was correct? Or any minimal invasive procedures could have been done.

It is hard to say if it was in fact a cavity. Fissures cavities are generally deceiving. Because of the structure of the tooth, it might appear small on eye inspection, but it is big inside. But again, it is hard to say without a x-ray and without having seen it with my own eyes.
