I have been in retail industry for years; after grueling foot surgery I vowed to find a different occupation. I did get a new position then my Mother became ill with dementia; the costs of her care was astronomical so I worked part time, then that became more than I could handle - I was offered a promotion that would be full time . At this time I thought it important to take this job and because she was declining I put her in a very expensive memory center. After a year; I wasn't able to sell her home and could no longer afford to keep her at the facility. I left my job to care for her. She passed away a year later. A month later I was offered a job in retail, I took it because was worried I wouldn't able to find anything. Big mistake! My ortho surgeon recommends another surgery as I have more damage from standing, now the ankle on other foot is bothering me. I told employer about surgery and they want me to postpone because of upcoming holidays; I agreed but Ortho doc wants to see me next week. I do not want to burn bridges with this company and I know they have sedentary jobs available after initial recovery. Again, when I took this job, I was grieving over the loss of my mom and didn't give it enough thought. I hate to put the department in a bind but mostly worry about the job. This is the same employer I worked for when I had first surgery. Any suggestions? I have no idea how I'm going to make it through holiday; pain unbearable.
