I own a duplex apartment in a New York City co-op apartment. The stairway within my apartment is over six treads. I have a switch on the upper floor that allows me to turn on lights on the lower floor. I do not have a switch at the bottom of the stairs to turn on a light on the upper floor, so when I go up the stairs there is no light on the upper floor. Is this a code violation? (The only light over the stairs themselves is a chandelier, which can be lit only by a single switch that is not close to either the top of the bottom of the stairs. I don't mind not having an operating light over the stairway itself - my problem is that when I go upstairs there is no light that I can turn on)
