I'm 17 years old and I turn 18 in a few months and my parents went behind my back and put a restraining order on my boyfriend who I have been with for 2 years. They think he puts me in danger.. but he doesn't at all and they don't understand that. Is there any way that I could do anything to get this lifted? Please help me

Hello in:

A restraining order isn't "put". It's awarded if there's proof that it's needed. If your boyfriend wants to see you, HE should have contested it, and he should contest it now.

Yes the courts don't just do these without evidence of some kind,

But he needs to appeal it and convince the court he isnot a danger to you.

Is the restraining order for you or your parents? I'm curious how they "went behind your back" and got a restraining order against him without your testimony, especially if he testified on his own behalf. But, once in place, there's little that can be done to lift it, at least not until you turn 18. Then you can petition the court to have it lifted.
