There's no way to know what it means, but it could be miscarriage. You wouldn't see the embryo that early. It could be mid-month bleeding, a very early next period, or something totally different. What Joypulv said. The only thing I can offer is that when I miscarried, it was bright red, but that was at 7 weeks. Rarely, maybe once a year, I get a bright red spotting and sometimes another period-sized amount of bleeding. Your best bet is to go to the doctor.
