If only he'd given the order to whack the terrorists in Benghazi...
He cannot give such an order in the open. Libya is a soveriegn nation, This is not Afghanistan in 2001. No doubt he has some drones deployed looking for likely targets.. Do you remember that the Libyans didn't want american troops on the ground in support of their revolution and they don't want them now. They moved to take action against certain groups. These are different days and landing on the shores of Tripoli is just not on. He may yet have to deal with Mali, which is where those terrorists probably came from

Hello again, tom:
You don't understand command.. Obama didn't have to fire the gun to have killed Ben Laden, and he doesn't have to drive a truck to manage the well oiled machine called FEMA.
excon
FEMA distrubutes Federal Money . If all he had to do was "drive a truck to manage the well oiled machine called FEMA." then he could've done it from his Oval Office ,and not done that Laurel and Hardy act with Christie. It was a disgrace. I'm more in awe of the cops I saw breaking up the potential riot at the gas station today than his faux look of concern from the helicopter .
When it comes to rebuilding the communities on the barrier beaches let's see how often the Federal Government gets in the way .
As much as I've had issues with nanny Bloomy and Governor Andrew Cuomo ,I have to say they called it right when they respectfully told the President to stay out of Dodge. The unheralded heroes are not the President and Christie hogging the oxygen. It is the first responders who pumped oxygen into infant babies when the generators failed at NYU Hospital . It's the police controlling traffic at dangerous congested intersections when the lights went dark. It's my friend who travelled from his home in PA ,and doesn't know when he'll return home because he is helping local utilities get power back up .
Tal says this won't be Katrina . That's right ,BECAUSE we aren't sitting on our thumbs waiting for Federal Government assistance.

Look Tom we know that Bush was a little detached and slow to decide, thankfully these are different days and if the only critism of Obama in a crisis is that he acted too quickly, I think you guys should find something better to gripe about, he acted before the possibility that he became a caretaker and unable to act
tomder55
Oct 31, 2012, 04:34 PM
He didn't act . That's bs. He didn't do a damn thing. You think taking a helicopter ride is acting ? Do you think he personally ordered the Army Corp of Engineers to bring pumps into NYC to pump out the subways ? Give me a break !
Bush wasn't slow to react . By law he had to wait until the Governors requested aid . Governor Blanco of Lousiana was the person slow to react .Governor Christie has been up the President's butt since the hurricane hit.

Hello again,
If you said this about FEMA,
"Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction. And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that's even better.
We cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids."
What would be the worst thing that could happen to you a week before the election?

Hello again, Steve:
The private sector is always more efficient.Let me ask you this, Mr. average American... Let's say it was YOUR city that was flooded. I presume you live in an AVERAGE neighborhood. RICH people don't. Who do you think the profit seeking companies are going to rescue first? When their profits are in danger, who do you think will be left on their own?
You certainly don't propose funding this giant private company with TAXPAYER dollars, do you? Or, should it be a charity like the Red Cross? That'll be good.. A GIANT hurricane hits and we ALL have to depend on charity to get rescued...

That same Bloomberg running massive generators for the marathon while half the city is in the dark? I don't think anyone is the least bit surprised by Bloomy's endorsement. I read it, it's a bunch of conflicting gibberish.
And don't forget the looting, lack of food of and heat (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/11/were-going-to-die-staten-island-residents-plead-for-help-3-days-after-sandy/)... but let's run a race.

Christie's Laurel And Hardy act with President flyover didn't surprise me. At heart he is a big government Republic despite his bombast . Got a chance to drive through inland NJ today His concentration with the coast towns he grew up in are admirable .But he has a whole State in the dark and in bad temper . Today volunteer utility workers from the South were turned away because they weren't unionized workers .
Nanny Bloomy is convinced that the storm was a global warming event . He's afraid that future NYC Marathons may be disrupted . Not only are generators being used for a Central Park party tonight; but people ,who went to Hotels because their homes were destroyed ,are being evicted so the runners have a place to stay.

Tom in every generation there are severe weather events. The extent to which climate change might have contributed will be debated for a long time to come. From my observation far away late season storms can have unexpected consequences and this one took an unexpected track.. The fruitcakes will all be blaming climate change because who else have they to blame, but the people who built their houses close to the shore must bear part of the blame
tomder55
Nov 2, 2012, 02:18 PM
but the people who built their houses close to the shore must bear part of the blame
Indeed . In fact the rich people who have vacation homes on the beach will no doubt be utilizing all the subsidized resources available to them including Federal flood insurance ,FEMA bucks ,Army Corps of Engineers rebuilding their beaches. I have no sympathy for them .
However ,there are people who live in those communities who make their living from the sea ,or catering to the beach crowd . They deserve as much assistance as the people of New Orleans did .
But I have to say that local governments need to make hard choices about riverside living etc .
My own rule of thumb is that if you can see water from your house it will eventually be in your house. I chose a house on the top of a hill.

I'm sure you noticed my comment about one being president and the other being presidential. Yeah, I'm liking him more and more.
But, as I've said from the start which you can't seem to believe (presumably because you drank the koolaid), I find his policies disastrous. We are not better off than we were 4 years ago and all he has waiting for us is more regulations (http://www.nationaljournal.com/whitehouse/obama-administration-sits-on-key-regulations-20121101?page=1)that will further strangle the economy, limit choice and infringe on my rights.
Federal agencies are sitting on a pile of major health, environmental, and financial regulations that lobbyists, congressional staffers, and former administration officials say are being held back to avoid providing ammunition to Mitt Romney and other Republican critics.
Despite looming legislative deadlines in the Affordable Care Act, court deadlines requiring environmental-protection rules, and a financial industry awaiting clarification on key reform details, the pace of regulatory release has slowed by almost half. The drop-off stands out not just compared to earlier years of Obama's term but also compared to other years in which presidents are running for reelection, according to analyses from experts at George Mason and George Washington universities.
The administration has also failed to release a required regulatory outlook document, describing its regulatory agenda. Such documents are supposed to be published every six months; the most recent one was published in January, making this the longest lag between outlooks since the deadline schedule was created in 1994.
Rules for thee but not for me... we can't afford this man.
