I was recently married in North Carolina for the wrong reasons. I am in the military, stationed here, but a legal resident of California. My new wife is a foreigner, living here. Can I get an anullment in California, even though I was marrried in NC? I know the laws are very strict here. Is there maybe a loophole in this state I can hop through? By the way, I was married by a universal life church minister. Please help. Thanks.

j_bee here is a link for self-help law in CA. From what I am reading, in order to file for divorce/annulment, you both must have resided in CA for the past 6 months.

California Courts: Self-Help Center: Families & Children: Family Law Overview: Ending A Marriage - Divorce, Legal Separation & Annulment Overview (http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/family/overview/divorce.htm)

So, from what I am gathering from this, you cannot get an annulment or divorce in CA. You would need to file for annulment in NC. Since you are in the military, it might serve you well to find out who the military legal counsel is where you are based. Make an appointment and speak with that person. They should be able to guide you and help you with this. Good Luck!
