Hi all

I worked for 2 months in 2006 in IL. I was then employed by an employer in KS for 10 months and the employer paid KS taxes. I lived in IL during this time.

How do I file this tax return? Does it matter that I've lived in IL while paying KS taxes?

Thanks!

If you lived and worked in Illinois for two months, then started to work in Kansas thereafter, you must pay taxes to Kansas on the income earned in Kansas. File a tax return for Kansas for that reason.

Then, file a tax return for Illinois for BOTH the Illinois and Kansas income, but claim a credit for the taxes paid to Kansas. That way, you do NOT get taxed twice on the same income.

You may want to get professional help. A competent tax professional deals with these issues every day.
