My husband was due for a trial on the 18th of September and on the 14th of September my hubbys solicitor told me that the legal aid decision had been refused because they wanted more information he said he wanted a payment of 6000 pounds and said he wanted it immediately. I told him I had no means of getting that kind of amount. He said he wanted the money before 10 am on the 17 th . I was under great distress and pressure because I felt if I didn't give him the money he wouldn't represent my hubby on the trial. Any way he said he will come to my house and pick up the check on Sunday. When he came I mentioned to him that we received a letter from legail aid mentioning that a my husband was granted legal representation and that I had till the 27th of sep to hand the info in. He blatently refused that he did not receive this letter as well. So I phoned legal aid and they told me that they sent the same copy out to my hubbys solicitor. Is this unethical practice. On the trial I found out that he didng even bother taking statements of witnesses that could have helped my hubbys case. As my hubby had mentioned it to him when he had a visit in prison from this solicitor. My question is he was prepared to take the 6000 and didn't even do his work properly. I can understand if the legal aid didn't come through and he couldn't be bothered. But he asked ne fir the money before the trial. I feel so angry because of ni witnesses being present the judge adjorned the trial for nov 26 and my husband had to remain in custody. He has been in remand since 16 June. Who do I complain to about his negligence?

Unless you are an Attorney your idea of what would or would not have helped is pretty meaningless. It's trained professional vs you. Unfortunate, but true. Likewise your opinion that he didn't do a "proper" job. If he lied about receiving paperwork (which I would guess this means, although it's difficult to understand - "He blatently refused that he did not recieve this letter aswell.") he very well may have prepared and just won't share his work because he hasn't been paid.

Anyway, if he was approved for legal aid, are you going to be reimbursed? Consider stopping payment on the check.
