I just got a boyfriend! :)! Im 12 and only one person knows - someone I have known for a long time who is 19. She said I should tell my mum and she would be happy about it! Ive never told her about previous boyfriends - they were not that serious. I think this one is though. Should I tell her? Or maybe leave it until we have been going out for a while?

Just tell her before you have to explain why you just got pregnant before you turn 14.

At 12, how can you "go out" (go where?) without your mother's (parents') permission?

We meet up in town at the weekends but I just tell my mum I'm meeting some friends

I honestly don't think I'm going to get pregnant!

It is not a good thing at all to lie to your mother.

I know but the question I was asking was how do I tell her?

You say, "Mum, Billy likes me and I like him too. We want to be boyfriend-girlfriend."

If you are chasing boys at 12... its going to be a very real possibility long before you are an adult.

How old is the boy?

Fact is, at your age you need parental consent in order to date. If your mom doesn't agree, you and the boyfriend are breaking the law.

Your mom still needs to know

Get caught in a lie and you'll never be able to see him again - that aside, what is "serious" when you're 12? What does that involve? What qualifies a person as a "boyfriend"?

I made my previous comment about pregnancy because every single girl that I knew that was chasing boys at 12, were pregnant and dropped out of school before they were 16. Not some.. but every one.

And I bet every one of them thought it would never happen to them either. I also bet none of them talked to their mom about it then either.
