We thought our Moen cartridge needed replacing as we were only getting hot water in the downstairs shower. We now think the pipe is blocked as we tried only turning on the cold water supply and nothing came through the shower - the basin taps were still getting cold water. The shower was installed about 3 years ago and is in the guest bathroom so it does no get used very often - not at all for at least a year. Thanks.

Hi Janie and welcome to The Plumbing Page at AskMeHelpDesk.com Did you taken the faucet apart, pull the cartridge and then turn the water back on for a few seconds to flush our the supplies? With the faucet open do you get pressure from the cold water supply? Let me know, Tom

Do you mean turn the water on briefly without the cartridge re-installed? No - we did not do that.
The cold water is coming to the sink and toilet in the same bathroom but not to the shower.
Thanks - Jane

The cold water is coming to the sink and toilet in the same bathroom but not to the shower. I understand that those lines are clear but I'm focusing on the line that's blocked,

Do you mean turn the water on briefly without the cartridge re-installed?
Yes! I want to flush out the cold line. If you can't get pressure while flushing the cold water supply let me know and we'll go to "plan B". Good luck, Tom

Hi Tom

Plan B please :)

The tiniest trickle of water came through when we tried your first suggestion.

Thanks

Plan "B" coming up! Shut the water off at the house shut off and remove the angle by unthreading the 1/2" chrome compression nut. Now hold a pan over the open line and have someone turn the water back on for a second. Did you get pressure then? Back to you. Tom

Hi Tom

I thought I should let you know how things worked out for us: it turns out that we had a faulty pressure balance spool. (Who knew we even had one of those? :) )

Moen sent us a new one and now all is well.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Janie
